Spaceship Earth to Close May 26 for Reimagining as Part of Epcot Transformation

Spaceship Earth to Close May 26 for Reimagining

Spaceship Earth, the flagship attraction and iconic symbol of Epcot, will be reimagined beginning May 26, 2020. As part of the historic transformation of EPCOT, Walt Disney Imagineering will begin working on the new vision for Spaceship Earth that will focus on the story of humanity from prehistoric humans to today.

Disney shared a few additional details of the new Spaceship Earth including that the Egypt scene will be transformed through the power of light. A new narration will also be included in the refurbishment, replacing Academy Award winner Judi Dench. The new story will demonstrate how light plays a central role in our shared human journey.

Unfortunately, this means Spaceship Earth will close for a time starting on May 26! Although we don't have a re-opening date, it is expected to be a lengthy refurbishment.

Walt Disney once said EPCOT “would always be in a state of becoming,” so we have to hope that Spaceship Earth's most ambitious update since the park’s grand opening on Oct. 1, 1982, will be worth the wait!
