Disney Cruise Line Announcements Include a New Island and a New Ship to Set Sail January 2022

At the D23 Expo 2019 today, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Bob Chapek shared a first look at the plans for Disney's second island destination and announced the name of the fifth Disney Cruise Line ship! Bob was joined by Imagineer Joe Rohde to share a first look at the plans for Disney's second island destination in The Bahamas.

A New Signature Island Experience - Lighthouse Point

Disney Cruise Line guests can look forward to a signature island experience that celebrates the spirit and culture of The Bahamas and the natural environment at a new Disney port of call, which will be called Lighthouse Point, located on the breathtaking island of Eleuthera.

Joe Rohde, whose work includes the design of Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii, explained that he has traveled on a cultural tour of The Bahamas. Joe announced that "Disney will be directly involved in conservation efforts to preserve and protect the environment and will be working with local artists to create a unique destination that is rooted in Bahamian culture and filled with Disney magic."

Construction at Lighthouse Point will begin only after an Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Management Plan are reviewed and accepted by the Government of The Bahamas and public consultation has occurred. Construction could begin in 2020 if everything goes smoothly and be completed in late 2022 or 2023.

Next New Ship Receives a Name and Character!

The Disney Wish was revealed as the name of Disney's new fifth ship. A beloved tradition of Disney Cruise Line is to adorn the back of the ships with a Disney character that reflects the name of the ship. The Disney Wish's stern will feature Rapunzel! The princess, paintbrush in hand, uses her hair to suspend herself as she decorates the stern of the ship with the help of her feisty sidekick, Pascal.

The ship’s atrium will be a bright, airy and elegant space inspired by the beauty of an enchanted fairytale.

Here's a first look at the Disney Wish:

The Disney Wish is scheduled for delivery in late 2021 and will set sail in January 2022.
