Live Shows Could Return Soon to Walt Disney World as Actor's Equity Association Reaches Agreement

Disney and the Actor's Equity Association have been in discussions regarding the return of Equity performers at Walt Disney World and with the agreement of an on-site center for COVID testing the Equity's executive committee has signed a memo of understanding with Disney for the performers to return!

On June 23, Disney announced their plans to recall members for rehearsals the following week but on June 25 the Actor's Equity Association released a public statement to delay the opening and strengthen safety protocols with regular testing. Equity believed that because actors cannot practice social distancing throughout their workday that Disney needed to provide an on-site center for COVID testing. The following day, on June 26, Disney rescinded their recall notice for Equity members.

On August 12, Walt Disney agreed to provide a space for an on-site center for COVID testing.

“We have been consistent that testing is an important part of ensuring a safe workplace for Equity performers, and today, I’m pleased to see that Disney World has agreed,” said Kate Shindle, President of Actors’ Equity Association. “With the news that Disney will make testing available for Equity performers and others in the park, I’m happy to announce that Equity’s executive committee has signed a memorandum of understanding with Disney for Equity performers to return.”

We look forward to seeing live performances once again at Walt Disney World!
