Walt Disney World has begun to relax some of their COVID-19 safety precautions including the self-service beverage stations. Guests can now use the self-serve stations to refill their own refillable mugs.
During the pandemic, beverages and other items that were previously self-serve were served by Cast Members instead. So when you wanted to refill your refillable mug, a Cast Member would complete the task for you.
Updated wording on the website now states: Some self-serve beverage stations - which allow for Guests to fill and refill their own beverages-are available at select quick-service restaurants located in Walt Disney World theme parks and Disney Resort hotels. Locations may vary.
Along with relaxing the COVID-19 protocol for self-serve beverages, Disney has also changed their photo policy to allow guests to remove their face masks for outdoor socially distanced photos and Disney has also begun removing hand washing stations from the parks.
