Disney Acquires Sadé - A Film Based on an African Princess

Disney may soon be adding a new princess! Disney has acquired Sadé - a film centered around an African princess who uses her magical warrior powers to protect herself and her kingdom when encountered with an evil force threatening her realm.
According to Deadline, who released the exclusive news, the film is based on an original idea by Ola Shokunbi and Lindsey Reed Palmer, who will co-write the Disney screenplay. The film will be produced by director Rick Famuyiwa and Scott Falconer will serve as exec producer. A director has not been named yet.
This production will be the first-time that an original Disney princess fairytale is based on a female African character. In 2009, The Princess and the Frog, was released which featured Disney's first Black princess.
